Watched a cat video where it said how important routine is for cats and I immediately thought of Odo's liking for routine. Then the idea came that Odo is going through his day, reminiscing about his routine, then starting to mentally complain that he wouldn't have any time anyway for a hypothetical relationship with Quark and would have to shift appointment A to B and so on until wondering why he was thinking about that at all.
Told my bestie this and if she can remember which of the episodes have Odo mention his routine, for example when waiting for Kira with her raktajino when she stands him up for Shakar. She pointed out that his routine can't be too strict, otherwise it would create an opening for criminals to use the free time frame. Since he doesn't probably need to regenerate for long, we agreed that he probably works 2 shifts out of three in varying versions (shift 1 and 3, then shift 1 and 2 and so on).
She also suggested suggested that he makes up his own work schedules, maybe a 100 different patterns that he switches or generates at random in his mind, making it difficult even for Quark.
Chacusha suggested that Odo thoroughly schedules his activities down to the minute each day because of his regeneration cycle that doesn't exactly match the day cycle of the station.
She also found a piece of dialogue showing that at least one walk across the Promenade happens at the same time daily in 4x26 "Broken Link":

> AROYA: I own the Celestial Cafe, the new Bajoran restaurant overlooking the Promenade.
> ODO: I'm familiar with it.
> AROYA: I watch you walk by every morning when you're on patrol. Oh nine thirty seven. You're very precise.
> ODO: How nice of you to notice.

Which makes little sense, because then Odo would have to have the same shift everyday day, which leaves an aforementioned opening for criminals. Yes, he could also be doing double shifts, as was also suggested.

The headcanon about Odo's routine, especially the one shown in the fic is still a WIP.

This was actually the second ever Quodo fic idea I had had after 'All out of love'. It is interesting how some things have changed and some not at all after watching my way almost once through the entire show and for a second time through half of all the Quodo scenes.
The title is actually inspired what either Odo or Quark had meant to say at some point while letting the dialogue play out in my head. By the time I started writing, the line and the build up to it never came back, but the title stayed.

Pacao, the L'Pacans' homeworld, and the society leans heavily on Peru on Earth and *drum roll* Alpacas. That's why I chose for the names of the noble houses and the last names of the merchant families to reflect this connection. The nobles' names are derived from Quechua, which Wikipedia told me has been spoken by people in Peru since a long time. The merchants' names are Spanish in origin. This is not to say that something like the conquests and genocides of Earth happened there exactly the same. Just me having a little fun mixing Earth and alien elements into something new.

I used glosbe.com as my Quechua dictionary and can only hope this isn't too bad a source.
P'aqu - brown
Yuraq - white
Sinca - nose
Nawi - eye
Rinri - ear
Inti - sun
Chaska - star

To anyone from Peru / speaking Quechua / with experience with Alpacas, feel free to drop pointers what to change/add for possible future dealings with L'Pacans!
(The 'possible' part is more of a hint for this specific series, seeing that I keep using L'Pacans in my other Quodo fics as well.)

The names of the Ferengi-L'Pacan couple, Kasara and Kuik, are derived from the Quechua term for 'marriage' Kasarakuy by splitting it up and ferengifying one half.

Noof is also interesting in that regard. His first name is entirely made up and my attempt at a 'traditional' and 'old' L'Pacan name, something their ancestors had been able to produce once eventually, developing speech more and more.
He's also the only acting character I've admittedly bothered giving a full name.

The scene at the end with them snuggling on the chair in the shuttle is a nod to fanart I really like by ambassadorquark (still don't know if that chair they are on is in Odo's office or in a shuttle to pass the time, though !)

Plot twist, what if Plek posed as his grandfather, tricking Odo and everyone into first buying the supposedly fake Plegg remains (which are actually the real ones) only to THEN declare his grandfather dead and make money AGAIN with selling fake remains.
